1.        Advanced License

All drivers that qualify for the top 16 in any Evergreen Drift competition also qualify for their Evergreen Drift Advanced License. The Advanced license qualifies the driver to take tandem runs (car must past tech requirements for tandem), and participate in Evergreen Drift events that require an Advanced License.

2.        Competition Format

2.1.      Qualifying

The first three runs are warm up and practice.

Qualifying will take place for all drivers during the second set of runs (3 runs in set). All 3 runs in the second set will be judged to determine the qualifying drivers for the top 16 competition.

The top 16 qualifying drivers will be directed to a separate run group and wait for the start of the competition. Drivers may make adjustments to their cars as necessary in the pits.

The drivers that did not qualify will complete one more set of runs for a total of 3 sets of runs (9 individual runs).

The top 16 qualified drivers will begin the competition after the non-qualified drivers finish the 3rd set of runs.

2.2.      Competition

·         Top 16 drivers run in order 3 times.

·         The 8 Highest Scoring Drivers advance to the next round

·         The best 8 run in order 3 times.

·         The 4 highest scoring drivers advance to the next round

·         The best 4 run in order 3 times.

·         The 2 highest scoring drivers advance to the final round

·         The 3rd and 4th place drivers take 3 runs to determine 3rd place. The highest scoring driver is the 3rd place finisher.

·         The top 2 highest scoring drivers take 3 runs in the final round. The highest scoring driver takes 1st and the lower scoring driver takes 2nd.

3.        Judging

3.1.      Scoring -

Each driver starts every run with 10 points.

3.1.1.    Standard Deductions -

Judges are to deduct points only for the following standard deductions:

3.1.1.1.     Mandatory zero (0) total points for run:

o    Spin - Any spin between the start or end course cones.

o    Off Course - If the driver leaves the pavement with all four wheels on the bank or elsewhere on the course or if all four wheels go past the outside or inside course boundary markers the score for the run is zero points.

o    Passing on the inside during a tandem run - During a tandem run the following driver may not pass on the inside unless necessary to avoid a collision. No points shall be deducted for collision avoidance maneuvers. Unsafe forced passes on the outside are not allowed.

3.1.1.2.    Deduct one (-1) point for each occurrence:

o    Initiate drift past the course start marker

o    Miss clipping point - The front bumper must pass within 5’ on the outside of the designated clipping point cone.

o    Displace clipping point cone - Making contact with and moving the clipping point cone outside of its marked location. No deduction if contact is made and the cone remains upright and still touching its marked location.

o    Loss of drift – The car straightens completely losing the drift or understeer.

A flagger will signal with yellow flag when a clipping point or cone penalty is assessed.

3.1.2.    Point Additions – “Awesome Points”

Judges may award the driver plus one (+1) point for each time the driver does something “awesome”. A maximum of two (2) “Awesome” points can be given per run.  Awesome points may be awarded at the judge’s discretion for things like:

·         Higher than average speed

·         Exciting and difficult line execution

·         Following closely during tandem runs

·         Displays of extraordinary drifting skill

Points must be awarded based on above average displays of driving skill and not due to vehicle ascetics or driver popularity.

3.1.3.    Score Tabulation

During every round all Judges score each competitors run. After all runs have been completed for the round each judge will drop the lowest scoring run and add the two highest scoring runs to obtain the driver’s score for the round. Example: Run one = 10, Run two = 4, Run three = 8. The Judge’s round score for driver is 10 + 8 = 18.

The driver’s round score (sum of the two highest scoring runs during the current round) from each judge will be added to obtain a combined driver’s score for the round. Example: Judge one = 18, Judge two = 18, Judge three = 17. The driver’s combined score for the round is: 18 + 18 + 17 = 53

The driver with the highest numerical combined round score is the winner of the round.

3.1.3.1.    Ties

In the event of a tie the dropped lowest score for the round from all judges will be added to the sum and the driver with the highest score will advance.  Example:  Judge one dropped score = 6, Judge two dropped score = 5, Judge three dropped score = 6. The combined score for one driver’s dropped runs: 6 + 5 + 6 = 17. Compare against other driver’s combined score for dropped runs.

In top 16 competition or higher rounds if the sum of the dropped scores is a tie the tied competitors will take one more run each until one of the competitors scores higher than the other.

4.        Tandem

Advanced licensed competitors with a car that meets tandem tech requirements may choose to run tandem with other qualified drivers in their competition round.

Each driver will be individually scored according to the method prescribed in section 3.1.

The following driver is free to take whatever line they want that allows them to hit the official clipping points but should try to match the lead driver as closely as possible in order to score ‘Awesome’ points.

The following driver may pass on the outside of the lead driver provided it can be done safely and cleanly without causing the lead driver to lose their drift. Unsportsmanlike passes or passes on the inside will result in a zero score for the run as described in section 3.1.1.1.

If the lead driver spins and causes the following driver to lose their drift the lead driver will be assessed the standard deduction for the spin but the following driver will not have a deduction made for a spin or loss of drift.

After a spin if the following driver continues to drift the remainder of the course standard deductions will be applied to any mistakes made.
